CO DEPENDENCY

Co Dependency

Co-Dependency is a pattern of behaviours and beliefs which are learned during childhood by those growing up in a dysfunctional family. Although they may be a beneficial survival-tactic at the time, these behaviours can have long-term detrimental effects in adulthood if they are not “unlearnt”.

If you think that you may be in a co-dependent relationship with your partner, spouse, parent or child then you may recognise some of these traits:

  • Low self esteem
  • Feelings of inadequacy
  • Worry about how others may perceive you
  • Fear of not being in a relationship
  • Lack of assertiveness about your needs
  • Feelings of being trapped in the relationship

Recognising that you are in an unhealthy relationship is the first step to ending it.
