FAMILY THERAPY

Recovery from an eating disorder is significantly improved when other family members are involved in the process. At The Surrey Centre, we work together with partners, parents, siblings and children helping them understand how to help their loved one. As this process progresses, food is put back into its rightful place and can become something enjoyed and shared.

When appropriate we invite the whole family to participate in sessions when feelings and experiences can be shared.

When someone has an eating disorder it can affect each member of their family differently. Family Therapy provides the chance for each family member to explore and understand their own particular reactions and experiences.

Some of the things that may be discussed

  • How an eating disorder works
  • Understanding individual feelings
  • How to manage meal times
  • Communication strategies
  • Family dynamics

Each family session lasts for 1.5 hours.
